5 Reasons to Attend a Washington Mystics Game

Check out DC's WNBA team at CareFirst Arena.

Over the past decade, the Washington Mystics have been one of the premier franchises in the WNBA, with a 2019 championship to show for it. CareFirst Arena serves as the team’s home court, the newest addition to Washington, DC's sports venue landscape. So grab your tickets and get ready to cheer on a WNBA powerhouse.

01

The Mystics play in a state-of-the-art arena.

Prior to the 2019 season, the Mystics played their home games at Capital One Arena, sharing it with the NHL’s Washington Capitals and the NBA’s Washington Wizards. Now, the talented squad has CareFirst Arena in Congress Heights to call home. The 4,200-seat arena provides an intimate atmosphere for Mystics fans to cheer on their favorite team, and in turn, a true homecourt advantage for one of the best teams in the WNBA.

In the first round of the 2025 WNBA Draft, the Mystics made two franchise-altering selections in guard Sonia Citron (no. 3 overall) and forward Kiki Iriafen (no. 4 overall). In their rookie seasons, Citron and Iriafen were both selected as WNBA All-Stars along with the Mystics' leading scorer, Brittney Sykes. The team has quickly become one of the most exciting to watch in the league, making Mystics more must-see than ever.

The Mystics have been a consistent contender over the last decade-plus, with nine postseason appearances in an 11-season stretch from 2013-23. That run includes a 2019 championship as well as a trip to the WNBA Finals in 2018. Now, with Citron and Iriafen leading a new era of Mystics basketball (along with new head coach Sydney Johnson), the future has never been brighter.

04

The schedule always features outstanding matchups.

Some of the WNBA’s best teams and players visit CareFirst Arena each summer to take on the Mystics in what promises to be a rowdy environment. Visit the team's website for a full 2025 schedule as the group aims to return to the WNBA Playoffs.

You can explore Congress Heights

One of DC’s emerging neighborhoods, Congress Heights is ripe for exploration either before or after a Mystics game. In addition to the CareFirst Arena, which also hosts concerts, the neighborhood offers Gateway DC, THE ARC, the Congress Heights Arts & Culture Center and food options.
